Zane Truscott: Breakfast to Break Your Fast

Hi, it’s Zane Truscott here and I’ve just got off a podcast where I was interviewed for about an hour. One of the questions I was asked was “what is it that you eat for breakfast?” Now, this is a topic I love to talk about because it’s one of the areas that I’ve found over the years where most people go wrong. When you get this part of your life wrong, eating breakfast, uh, it can have a big impact on how you feel physically. Your sense of focus can have a big impact as to whether you experience problems with digestion, a lack of energy, fatigue, those kinds of things. So the first thing to realize is that the word breakfast, the brilliance of that word actually is in the word itself. The wisdom of it is in the word itself, and it’s broken into three parts.

Breakfast means to break your fast. Now, any fasting expert on earth will tell you that when you are breaking your fast, the worst thing that you can do is to eat solid or dense food. I was raised with the notion that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as I’m sure you probably were as well. And look, that might be okay when we’re young and you know, we’re still growing and we don’t have many health challenges to face, but as we get all the embracing, the wisdom of what breakfast is really about just becomes so important. So what I want to do is just share with you three things that you should be doing to break your fast every morning. Number one, start with liquids. It’s so important for us to realize that when we wake up in the morning, our body is craving water.

It wants to rehydrate from the night before. It is naturally dumping metabolic waste. It’s the reason why when you wake up, we have this thing called morning breath. It’s the reason why nature calls and we tend to want to go to the bathroom. First thing, when we wake up or soon after, and you know, it’s so important for us to rehydrate first thing in the morning. So start by drinking 500 ml to one liter of water, pure clean water. When you wake up preferably chilled water, because that helps to stimulate and activate the metabolism. A lot of people don’t realize that anciently a lot of long live cultures would drink from free running cold streams. We should be doing the same thing. We should be drinking, clean, pure cold water first thing in the morning.

The second thing to do is to ensure that you get some kind of acid into your stomach. Now, when I talk about acid, I’m not talking about the harmful type. I’m talking about natural food acids that actually cause us to alkalize our bodies. The first one of course is Apple cider vinegar. Just a couple of tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar with clean water. First thing in the morning is a great way to the acidic acid in Apple cider vinegar will help to get some good acids in the gut, which really helped to support  the elimination of waste. Do that first thing in the morning. Another way to go is to just have the juice of a whole lemon or lime, and it has a similar effect. So you just whole whole lemon or lime straight into a glass, and then fill it with cold water and down the hatch.You can also add a little bit of Celtic, sea salt, which also helps to add electrolytes to it and won’t break your fast.

And just thirdly, when you do decide that it’s time to eat, go with what nature wants us to eat, and that is fruit beautiful, juicy mango. Just realize that fruit is nature’s astringent. It means it’s nature’s detoxifier and the time that our body needs support in the area of detoxification is first thing in the morning. Now, if you don’t want to eat fruit, that’s fine. Have a fruit smoothie, add some bananas to some coconut milk or some oat milk, some ice, a little bit of maple syrup. If you like raw dates, just throw them in the blender, and you’ve got the world’s greatest smoothie. If you want to add a little bit of cacao powder, you can do that as well. Or you can just add a little bit of cold brew coffee. These are just a few little tips that I hope you’ll embrace because as I say, one of the worst things that we can do is to have a big, heavy breakfast when we wake up in the morning.
